‘Looking on the Holocene climatic markers (8.2, 5.9, 4.2 ka BP and others) and tracing their impact on past cultures and civilizations in the Nile Basin and beyond’
Poznań (Poland), May 30-31th, 2017
We invite you cordially to the first meeting of the International Focus Group on North-Eastern African Quaternary Stratigraphy on May 31, 2017. There will be discussed results of the newest researches, conducted by Polish archaeological missions on Late Pleistocene and Early Holocene sites in the valleys of the Nile and Atbara in Sudan and on the Western Desert of Egypt.
The International Focus Group on North African Quaternary Stratigraphy (NAQS) operates under the umbrella of Commission on Stratigraphy and Chronology (SACCOM) of the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA). The main goal of NAQS is a discussion and proposal of the consistent Late Pleistocene and Holocene climatostratigraphic division for the area of Northeastern Africa. NAQS will also organize international conferences, conferences and field workshops focusing on issues connected with late Quaternary climatostratigraphy of the Northeastern Africa region reflected in lake, paleolakes (playa) sediments and wide range of geoarchaeological data with special attention devoted to Egypt and Sudan.
The INQUA-NAQS meeting ‘will be held at the Institute of Archeology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań (Rubież 46 street). We invite all who are interested in this subject to participate in the meeting and togive a short presentation (15 minutes) of your paleoclimatic, paleoenvironmental and geoarcheological research in Egypt, Sudan and adjoining areas.
